Celtic Jewellery Symbology

Celtic jewellery dates back to around 2,000BC and the symbols used in their jewellery date back as far as 3,000BC. The Celts were among the first peoples on the planet to design and produce beautiful jewellery and their jewellery was ornate and rich with symbology of deep spiritual meaning. The Celts dominated western and central Europe for more than 1,000 years, but their descendants are now dispersed in Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The ancient Greeks were the ones who gave this alliance of tribal nations the name Keltoi, known by us as Celtic.
The Celts used bronze, copper and gold to craft their jewellery pieces which were mainly used to fasten their clothes and well as for decoration. Hair-pins, buttons, brooches, necklaces, bracelets, sword belts and harnesses were crafted, adorned with the symbols which have endured through history. Carved stones survive today bearing the same symbology.
The symbols used in Celtic jewellery have links to paganism, early christianity and the Celts deep connection with nature. Links to Wicca such as the triquetra, the three goddesses, power of three and the phases of the moon were incorporated. Some of the best known Celtic symbols:

Instead of the very heavy dramatic items the Celts wore, we can wear the same designs crafted in silver and pewter and in a scale and weight more suitable to our tastes and lifestyles.
Another modern twist is the upsurge in popularity of Celtic design in tattoos. If you need to sleep 4 then there is the Big House 4 or if 6 then you can get the Big House 6 version. These tents are free standing but supplied with stakes in case required. With such a large tent you would expect to be able to stand inside and you certainly can.
Setting up camp is straight forward with these tents as there are easy to use clips and colour coding. Although big tents they are in fact light weight as the poles and stakes are aluminium.
These tents have one large area for sleeping and storing some gear. There is also room for keeping some gear although most people recommend buying 2 vestibules that attach either side of the large tent. The vestibules themselves are fairly large and can store a lot of stuff. There are plenty of mesh pockets inside the tent for keeping things in and 2 very large doors.
There is a huge skylight and this lets plenty of daylight in the tent. Ventilation is good and when the doors are open it is very comfortable.
There have been no reports of leakage in the tent due to the quality waterproofing.
The Big Agnes Big House tents are big and airy and brilliant for a large family. If the weater is bad then there is still room to stay inside and have a meal and for the children to play games. In all a great tent.
